Plastic in the sand
and in the fish
and in the sea-
why do we hurt
the things that offer
relief,
respite,
sustenance,
sanctuary?

There was a time
when what happened
over there
rarely reached
our awareness,
but that time
is at an end-
a change is at hand-
and a new earth
must soon begin.

Where we
recognize,
reconcile,
reorganize,
realize
that we can’t afford
to close our
ears and hearts
to life’s echo effects…

Reverberating off
of our habitat’s pain,
summoning us
towards humanity’s
change.

For what happens
over there
is happening
right here
and what is
happening here
is reflected everywhere.

We are the mirror.
Love is the looking glass.
And whatever is done
to the least of us,
is done to the very
all of us.

Awake.
Aware.
Affirm.
Avow-
the sanctity of life
that inhabits this space.

And may we keep
our hands out reached
to hope and hold
the trees
and seas,
the fish,
the breeze
in reverent accord
and tender equity.

For our earth
is the weave that supports
the very fabric of
our humanity.
